Under the Red Crescent - Adventures of an English Surgeon with the Turkish Army at Plevna and Erzeroum

In "Under the Red Crescent", Charles S. Ryan follows the precarious path of an English surgeon embedded with the Turkish Army during two of the most turbulent campaigns of the late nineteenth century—at Plevna and later at Erzeroum. Moving beyond battlefield romance, he offers a vivid, first-hand account of triage, amputations, fever, and the relentless struggle to keep men alive amid overcrowded hospitals and shifting front lines. As he witnesses the clash of empires and the strain placed on military medicine, Ryan also captures the human side of war: the endurance of soldiers, the improvisation of medical staff, and the quiet determination required to treat the wounded when resources are scarce. Under the Red Crescent - Adventures of an English Surgeon with the Turkish Army at Plevna and Erzeroum is an unchanged, high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1897.
