Louis Agassiz - His Life and Correspondence - Vol. II

Elizabeth Cary Agassiz paints a vivid, closely observed portrait of Louis Agassiz in the second volume by weaving together his correspondence with the lived context of his work. The book traces how his scientific convictions were formed, challenged, and refined through ongoing exchanges—showing not only the breadth of his investigations, but also the intensity of his intellectual discipline and his insistence on rigorous evidence. Letters reveal his relationships with colleagues, students, and institutions, and they illuminate the practical realities behind major scientific ambitions: the building of networks, the pursuit of specimens and data, and the careful coordination required to advance knowledge. At the same time, the narrative highlights the personal side of his life—his character and his teaching. Louis Agassiz - His Life and Correspondence - Vol. II is an unchanged, high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1885.
