Droll Stories - Vol. I and Vol. II

Honoré de Balzac's "Droll Stories" (Vol. I and Vol. II) is a lively collection of tales that blends wit, sharp observation, and a keen eye for human folly. Across these stories, Balzac turns everyday situations into something unexpectedly dramatic—revealing vanity, greed, desire, and self-deception with a playful yet incisive touch. Whether the plot unfolds through misunderstandings, moral tests, or surprising reversals, each narrative is driven by character and consequence, showing how quickly appearances can mislead and how deeply people can be governed by their own impulses. With its mixture of humor and psychological insight, the collection offers an entertaining ride while quietly exposing what really lies beneath “respectable” behavior. Droll Stories - Vol. I and Vol. II is an unchanged, high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1874.
