A Dissertation on John Norris of Bemerton

Fred J. Powicke's "A Dissertation on John Norris of Bemerton" offers a focused and compelling study of the seventeenth-century thinker John Norris, known for his distinctive blend of religious devotion, intellectual rigor, and philosophical insight. Through careful analysis of Norris's ideas and writings, Powicke traces how Norris developed his views on spirituality, divine grace, and the inner life—issues that resonated far beyond his own time. Rather than treating Norris as a mere historical figure, the book places him in the wider currents of theology and thought, showing how his arguments both reflected and challenged the intellectual debates of his era. The result is an engaging portrait of a mind at work, illuminating why Norris's work continued to matter to readers. A Dissertation on John Norris of Bemerton is an unchanged, high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1893.
